Janet Bell
Janet Bell’s work is a unique take on the English seaside, traditionally British but with a Scandinavian twist. Her Danish roots are evident in the colours and composition so prevalent within Nordic illustration today. Janet has been painting since 2001 having studied textiles and specialising in machine embroidery and screen printing. She began painting from a studio in Chester, and her work started to focus more and more on the British coastline, inspired by trips to English seaside towns and memories of playing on the beaches of northern Denmark. In 2007, Janet and her Husband Sean moved to the Isle of Anglesey and opened the Janet Bell Gallery in the charming seaside town of Beaumaris. The intention was to sell a few prints from a working studio space, but the small side street studio quickly relocated to become a High Street success due to the popularity of Janet’s unique, happy, colourful paintings of Anglesey.
