Hi guys,

I'm English to Polish translator based in the UK who specialises in literary translation.
My previous clients have been Polish publishers. Recently, however, to my pleasant surprise, I was approached by the owner of an agency focusing on literary translations from Manchester.
My question to you: are there more such translation agencies specialising in literary translations in the UK?
How do you find them?

Thanks for any advice.

Hello Malwina,

I would head to google.co.uk and search using a refined query. You can start with "literary translation" AND "agency" AND UK, and then further refine it to achieve best results.

You will soon realize that most agencies don’t have contact emails on their websites (just some contact forms). And messages sent via those contact forms and/or to email addresses shown on those websites will often go unanswered simply because there is too much spam going on. <

Hello Malwina,

You will soon realize that most agencies don’t have contact emails on their websites (just some contact forms). And messages sent via those contact forms and/or to email addresses shown on those websites will often go unanswered simply because there is too much spam going on.

Therefore, I would then go to LinkedIn. Find contacts (PMs or HR contacts) working in that subject translation agency and try to communicate with them on LinkedIn (you’ll have better chances of being realized and replied on LinkedIn).

Visiting offices in person (just to drop your business card at their reception desk and “to say hi”) is much more effective than email correspondence. Email just doesn’t work for marketing anymore.

I wish you all the success.
