CTRL+INS is fine for copying source to target, but did they realize at SDL that copy source selection to target is even finer? MemoQ has it, Cafetran has it, Wordfast Pro, well, to some extent, too. Studio does not have it. Or does it, hidden somewhere? | | | Lingua 5B Bósnia-Herzegóvina Local time: 14:50 Membro (2009) inglês para croata + ... Not aware of it... | Aug 13, 2020 |
I know there’s “copy segment” and “copy all (entire text)”, not aware of the copy selection function. I’d be interested to find out too if there’s one. | | | There is one | Aug 13, 2020 |
I can see it on mine-Trados Studio 2017 version- top right hand corner in the column which is next to Confirm. Under 'Segment Actions' list- Copy source to target, then copy Copy all source to target and Clear target segment. I use Windows 2013. I can see it on mine and hope I'm capable of posting a screenshot here.

[Edited at 2020-08-13 13:27 GMT] Huh, Windows 2013...? Does Studio 2017 run on such antiques? I think a screenshot could be useful.

Just select your segments, then right-click one of them in the segment number column then Ctrl-Ins (or click the context menu option)

I dropped it in the space but did not manage to copy it to clipboard. I tried twice. Maybe you'll manage yourself. | | | Wolfgang Schoene França Local time: 14:50 Membro (2007) inglês para alemão + ... CRIADOR(A) DO TÓPICO Right click is not the solution | Aug 13, 2020 |
wotswot wrote: Just select your segments, then right-click one of them in the segment number column then Ctrl-Ins (or click the context menu option) Maybe I wasn't clear enough: What I want is to transfer to target segment from source segment only the figure sequence (2500 to 4500) in the following period: The quick brown fox jumps over "2500 to 4500" lazy dogs. A stupid example but I hope I made myself understood. If you select some text in the source segment and you go Copy source to target = CTRL+INS, the whole segment is copied and that's not what I want. | | | Stepan Konev Federação Russa Local time: 15:50 inglês para russo Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V | Aug 13, 2020 |
Why not use Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V? In both cases (memoQ and Trados) you have to select source, then put cursor into target and press 'paste'. Pressing Ctrl+C/V needs only one hand and it is easier than Ctrl+Shift+T that requires both hands. No? I never use the memoQ's Ctrl+Shift+T shortcut for this reason.

[Edited at 2020-08-13 14:37 GMT] I do use CTRL+C/V of course failing a shortcut for what I'm looking for (in Studio). I do use CTRL+Shift+T quite often in MemoQ, but I guess everyone has its own habits. AAMOF, it happens that for example in long target segments when you have to copy from source and paste to target a source fragment you have to search for the exact point of insertion. With a copy source selection shortcut you put cursor in the right place in target segment and the selection is inserted exactly there. Maybe not a great deal, but I always found it very useful. In Wordfast for example you can copy a selection to target but only at the end of the segment which is not very useful. | | | Silke Walter Alemanha Local time: 14:50 Membro (2014) inglês para alemão Numbers, acronyms, etc. | Aug 13, 2020 |
If you want to copy only the numbers (or acronyms, sometimes names, etc. - you can see them underlined in the source segment) you can use ctrl + comma or ctrl + alt + down (arrow). Then the number is displayed and you can click enter to select. If there are more such items in the segment, a list is displayed and you can select the one you want via the up and down arrows. | | | Wolfgang Schoene França Local time: 14:50 Membro (2007) inglês para alemão + ... AAMOF a selection to transfer to target can be any sort of text, numbers, symbols, pics etc. Given the answers I'm getting the requested feature/shortcut does not exist in Studio 2020. So it's CTRL+C/V. | | | James Plastow Reino Unido Local time: 13:50 Membro (2020) japonês para inglês
