Hi,

I was wondering if it was possible to introduce RSS feeds for the different fora.

Hi,

I am well aware that there is an option to be notified whenever a posting is made to a particular forum, but I choose not to take advantage of this option because my inbox is already flooded with other requests and notifications.

RSS feeds would be great because they allow you to follow particular discussions or topics with the help of a separate RSS reader (or a reader that can be used as add-on to your browser, email client, etc.). I am already using one and am monitoring various channels, blogs and fora with it. Would it be too complicated to introduce a separate RSS feed for each forum, so everyone can choose which forum he wants to monitor more closely?

Thanks for listening.

Sonja

In Mozilla, once you have installed the Sage extension you can just visit the URL and add it to your bookmarks under the Sage folder. Hitting ALT-S will cause the Sage sidebar to appear, then you just click on the ProZ.com link to see the forum topics.

If you want to view topics from just one specific forum, add the number of the forum to the end of the URL. Like this:
http://www.proz.com/rss/forum/48

I have been using Newz Crawler for other feeds for some time now. Seems OK.

http://www.newzcrawler.com

price about 25 dollars after a free trial.

Up to now I have not used if for newsgroup-type forums just the news.

I understand that you have to be careful to avoid those with spyware.

A couple of newsreaders/add-ons Sep 27, 2004

I am sorry but I haven't been able to update this posting with a list of newsreaders/add-ons earlier.

FeedReader: Feedreader is an open source RSS reader for Windows. I used to read my RSS feeds with this reader, but then switched to Sage on Firefox.

Aggreg8: This is another add-on for Mozilla or Firefox.

NewsMonster: add-on for Mozilla.

Pluck: this is an add-on for Internet Explorer.

IntraVnews: If you prefer to receive RSS feeds via your mail client, this little tool - free for non-commercial use - can be used to read RSS feeds with Outlook.

IzyNews: IzyNews is an online service. You can subscribe to your feeds on their page, and they update a specific folder in your email client each time your RSS feeds are updated.

Newspipe: I haven't tried this one and don't know how exactly it works. It seems to deliver RSS feeds via email. It's open source.

HTH.

Do you think it has something to do with the French accents (or the default language code specified in your rss file)?

Regards,

why is the problem of RSS feeds for Non-English forums still unsolved? Aug 28, 2007

why is the problem of RSS feeds for Non-English forums still unsolved yet?

For example, the feed for Chinese forum http://www.proz.com/rss/forum/34 will return code errors in IE, and parse error in some RSS readers.

However, it is just due to the UTF-8 encoding issue when generating the page on the server side, with a proper mark of encoding scheme in the page.

I really hope Proz staff can solve it. It should not be an issue of three years, and an issue in the coming three years.
