It is the first time I get such a rude answer, but I have not been sending out cvs for so long, so I would appreciate your feedback on wether this kinds of answer are something a freelance translator has to live with or it is an exception.

Thanks! Maria

Has never happened to me Mar 9, 2003

Hi,

Every once in a while I do send my CV to all kinds of agencies... I never got an answer like this! Either there is no reaction at all, or a polite request for more details.

Do not let this unpleasant experience disencourage you.

Best

Exception Mar 9, 2003

Hi Maria,

I\'ve sent out hundreds of CVs and never got back an answer as rude as this. Don\'t take it personally. Most agencies simply won\'t reply to you, if they\'re not interested, or will reply in a courteous manner. So keep on sending out those CVs and don\'t let it bother you.

Different sensitivity levels Mar 9, 2003

Hi Maria,

It depends on how sensitive people are to receiving unsolicited mails. If you get one or two a day, that\'s ok - imagine the situation of a PM getting hundreds of them.

This was discussed recently: www.proz.com/?sp=bb/viewtopic&post=50495#50495

What keeps bugging me is people sending CVs as attached Word documents - the chances that these go to the recycling bin (without a response) are close to 90%.

Summarising: these people may not have chosen a diplomatic way of telling you something they have a right to tell you.

Best regards, Ralf

Rare Mar 9, 2003

Hi

In my experience agencies are rarely that rude.

But I would not attach your CV to an email; people may think it contains a virus and so just delete it. That is what I would do.

One way is to email an agency giving your language pairs, specialisations and experience, and offer to send a CV if they ask for one.

best

Spencer

I don't think my mail was spam Mar 10, 2003

I just wanted to add that I do not think my mail could qualify as spam, as it was sent only to this agency (following a request for translators on their web page). That is why I was so surprised by their answer.

Greetings

Maria

Not a big deal Mar 10, 2003

Of course it does not add up that they should request your resume and then turn right around and tell you not to send anything. Sounds like an automatic response for UCE. In any case, do note the very first word of the message, \"please\". The rest does not look very tactful but it probably is meant to be that way. I think they are tired of spammers and accidently sent it to someone who was legitimately replying to a request. Forget about it and keep moving forward.

you know what, Maria? Mar 10, 2003

I think it was a plain mistake, I\'m referring to their mailing list mention. If they were requesting translators to contact them and you did so, something screwed up on their end. I would suggest you get a real person\'s email address (not the \"info@\" address on the website) and tell them about your puzzlement and possibly a link to this forum page.

Otherwise, forget it. Mistakes happen.

The only time I got mad Mar 13, 2003

The only time I got mad was when a translator sent me an unsollicited 6MB super duper Word attachment containing his resume.
