Anenhasejo did actually give a translation of this part in his/her post above, which is hidden right now. So hang in there, Sheila, and all will be revealed!

My thesis is about automatic proofing of global English texts (texts written by Koreans, Chinese and Japanese). As they usually have some mistakes it seems to be a great problem for a computer programme (whether it's a machine translation instrument or automatic annotation) to deal with it. It's the first point. All the examples you see in the form are taken from conference reports, so these people have higher education for sure. I am illiterate in Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic, and ALL Far Eastern ideograms. I can slowly read Hebrew if the dots/vowels underneath are provided.
So I couldn't get past the first mandatory field Время начала заполнения анкеты.
Then Google Translate came to my rescue. It works extremely well in RU>EN, much better than EN>PT. Yet this somewhat extended my time for the entire test. | | | Victoria Ru Local time: 08:43 inglês para russo CRIADOR(A) DO TÓPICO the first mandatory field | Apr 3, 2013 |
the first mandatory field is the start time for your test. Thank you for filling it in.
P.S. All the necessary translation is in post 4 "You're welcome"
I'm so sorry for not posting it from the very beginning.

That sounds like the understatement of the year to me. I know that MT can make a serious attempt at the simplest of translations nowadays, and some quite good attempts at some of the more common translations (e.g. some of the more basic contract clauses), but how can it correct sentences written in one language by someone who was thinking in another (presumably unknown) language?
they can use this automatic proofing instrument to check their papers in advance. Good luck to them! I fail to see how anything other than GIGO can result from this. I'm not sure if that's a common acronym nowadays, but it means "Garbage in; garbage out".
But that's going off topic really. Good luck with your PhD, Victoria. | | | Páginas no tópico: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Assistance in writing my PhD thesis Wordfast Pro | Translation Memory Software for Any Platform
