Texto de origem - português Este artigo apresenta uma reflexão sobre os processos argumentativos que envolvem debates de opiniões na esfera pública, com especial atenção aos debates travados em torno de assuntos relacionados à ciência e à tecnologia. O artigo inicia com uma breve revisão sobre as teorias que tratam da análise do processo de produção do discurso e da argumentação. Em seguida, busca-se evidenciar como disputas e decisões coletivas sobre questões tecnológicas estão interligadas às disputas políticas e ideológicas de projetos de sociedade, travadas por grupos sociais com interesses distintos; e como esses diferentes posicionamentos ideológicos condicionam escolhas, entre propostas tradicionais, convencionais e novas tecnologias. Assim, a partir da ótica de que a tecnologia é fruto tanto das condições técnicas dadas num determinado momento, quanto do jogo de forças sociais que elegem algumas e descartam outras, a parte final do artigo analisa as relações entre discurso, argumentação e escolhas tecnológicas na prática da Extensão Rural.
Tradução - inglês The article presents a discussion of the argumentative processes that occur in public sphere debates, especially those related to science and technological issues. The article begins with a brief theoretical discussion about the discourse production and the argumentative processes. Then, shows how public disputes and collective decisions related to technological questions are linked to political and ideological battles between different projects for the society, supported by different groups of interest; and how the choices between traditional, conventional and new technologies proposals are conditioned by these different points of view. Thus considering that technology is a result from both the technical conditions available at a given time, and the social and political forces - that elect some and reject others - the final part of the article brings an analyses of the relationship between discourse, argumentation and technological choices in the Rural Extension practice.
