português term

machambrado nas cabeças

português para inglês Tecn./Engenharia Materiais (plásticos, cerâmicas etc.)
It's about a shipment of wood pallets, and describes the requirements of the pieces:

Duas femeas longitudinal para grapa de acero universal e machambrado nas cabeças.
Proposed translations (inglês)
3 dovetail joints/tongue and groove joints

Discussion

Elvira Alves Barry (asker) Dec 18, 2009:
It's in a list of requirements for contents of a shipment of wood, length, width, how heavy the pallets should be, etc., and that's how they spelled it. In searching, I found a reference to "madeira machambrada", with no explanation of what that might be. Context is Brazilian Portuguese. Sorry, hope that helps.
Bentevi Dec 18, 2009:
A little more context Hello Elvira. Could you give me a little more context? I know what it is, but the phrasing sounds strange. Could you post what is before and after "Duas fêmeas longitudinal para grapa de acero universal e machambrado nas cabeças"?

dovetail joints/tongue and groove joints

machambrado (macho) - tongue
fëmea - groove

tábuas machambradas = tongue and groove boards

I hope this helps.

placing the strap within the longitudinal groove of the pallet strip; .... The longitudinal groove is shown on the side of the entire pallet strip. ...

Machimbrado? Typo?

This would fit in the following description of a vacuum cleaner.

What is claimed is:

1. A vacuum cleaner that has: a vacuum head with a front side and a rear side; a pair of spaced apart brackets on the rear side of the vacuum head; a secondary head thataccommodates a cloth; a pair of spaced apart brackets on the secondary head; and a tongue-in-groove connection, that detachably connects the brackets on the vacuum head with the brackets on the secondary head.
