fazer política (numa empresa)

português para inglês Adm./Finanças Negócios/comércio (geral) Business
Context is a report stating advantages/disadvantages of turning over one company's business to another, in Brazil: "A XXX poderá determinar a política que quiser, inclusive com o propósito de prejudicar a marca YYY,caso algum dirigente da XXX desejar fazer política."

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Nov 15, 2004:
More context These are actually the same company at headquarters but, in Brazil, one sells regular product line and the other a very premium product. If they decided to make it one company here, depending on what management of first company decides, it could ruin the market for the premium product.

Selected

policy (in this case)

A XXX poderá determinar a política que quiser, inclusive com o propósito de prejudicar a marca YYY,caso algum dirigente da XXX desejar fazer política

XXX can decide on whatever policy it wishes, including a policy that would harm brand YYY, if any of the management at XXX so desires.

Policia can be politics, policy, networking, depending on where and how it is used.

agree Karen Haggerty : I think this is the closest to being correct in all of the suggestions. In this case, I would think of "fazer politica" as "make policy". I think the overall translation that Judith submitted is a good interpretation. Boa sorte!

disagree Karen Haggerty : "Play politics" has a negative connotation that is inappropriate for this text, which appears to be a professional memo about internal business decisions.

make this a political issue

I don't think it is AT ALL clear as far as context goes...Normally, companies have POLICIES with regard to PRODUCTS...so, here, that's what they're talking about, IMO. "determinar uma política" is "draw up a policy"..and FAZER then, is make the thing political with a little p.....not like politics with politician...but politics as in a political issue....slightly different, no?
