A link topology in which all stations are connected in parallel to a medium. These stations are capable of concurrently receiving a signal transmitted by any other station connected to the medium.

Cada vez que um novo equipamento era adicionado à rede, era preciso fazer um "refresh" de cabos para manter a sequência, o que nem sempre era fácil. Outra grande desvantagem era que, ao desconectar um cabo qualquer, a rede inteira ficava inoperante.

Nesta topologia temos um cabo (constituído por um conjunto de segmentos interligados) ao longo do qual se ligam computadores.
Nesta topologia a informação é transmitida por um cabo comum para todos os nós da rede ao mesmo tempo (a isto chama-se transmissão em broadcast);
Mas estas mensagens são recebidas apenas pelo computadores a que se destinam (através de endereços apropriados).
