Hello. I'm translating land registry records from Portugal, and I just wanted to check that I've been translating the abbreviations "Ap." and "AV" correctly. I know that "Av" is "averbamento", and I'm translating it as "endorsement", although there may be a more specific term for entries added to the register at a later date to update the register.
I'm not 100% certain, but I think that "Ap." might be "apenso". I'm tranlsating it as "Enclosure", although I suppose it could be "appendix" or even "annex".
An opinion from someone in the know would be really helpful.

Av. = averbamento --- I've been using Marginal Note MN
I've done many dozens of these...no client has ever made an issue of my translation, but I must admit I didn't have any authoritative source to go by. I had to put something and it seemed to work.

Hi, Aoife... Looking over one of the files where "Av." is used and I used MN... "addendum" looks logical, as Av. appears beside entries that would probably involve the attachment of a document to the records. I'll keep that in mind the next time one crosses my desk. Ed

| Hello Edgar. Thank you so much for your answer. I have to say, I think you might be right about "apontamento". The only issue I have with "marginal note" for "averbamento" is that there are two margins on either side of the main body of text, and the "Av." entries are inserted in the main column, as addenda to the original entry.
