Bio

Welcome and thanks for visiting Klebiano's professional profile!

My name is Klebiano. Nice to e-meet you! I live here in Sao Paulo, Brazil (GMT-3), and my native language is Brazilian Portuguese. I am a freelance translator, editor, proofreader, and MT post-editor. I would like to show you some of my professional and academic experiences.

I decided to study electronics in high school when I was an adolescent. During four years, from 1995 to 1998, I had been doing the regular course while I studied the technical disciplines. In those days, the Internet environment was becoming popular here in Brazil. The more my studies in high school got deeper, the bigger became my interest in computers and the web. Then, my father bought me a personal computer that allowed me to contact those technological resources at an embryonic stage. It helped me to follow the course successfully.

I made some good friends in high school and, in 1999, a friend of mine, Eric, had already gotten a job. He was working for an IT company. At a certain moment, he told me that the company he was working for had a job vacancy. The fact caught my attention and then I told him that the vacancy interested me. I thought to myself “If I got that job, I could enter the IT market, and finally I could work with computers and networks as well.” Thus, Eric took my CV and brought it to HR. After some days, I started working there. This experience was important to me because I could not only establish contact with a very rich vocabulary pertinent to the IT area but also understand in depth the details of that fascinating universe. One of the most rewarding experiences for me was to have worked on solving the Y2K problem.

In 1999, I also began an English course. I learned English at Fisk, from 1999 to 2007, as a second language, – Mr. Fisk was an American citizen who came to Brazil in 1950 and, since then, he developed a very recognized teaching method for Brazilians. It was a very pleasant experience that awakened my appreciation for languages. After finishing the course, I got a job in the school and then I worked as a pedagogical assistant, in the Language Activity Center – I was responsible for providing pedagogical support to the students who had been frequenting the language laboratory. I managed the laboratory’s resources such as computers (win/office/internet), books, dictionaries, educational games, etc. Besides all that, I was also responsible for the organization of events and celebration dates, according to the Anglo-Saxon calendar, throughout the year.

Then, I decided to begin my superior studies at the University. I enrolled at Sao Judas Tadeu University, in Sao Paulo, as a scholarship student because I had a high grade on the college entrance examination. As I had a deep interest to establish contact with humanities, the graduation that I chose was Philosophy. During the course, I had the opportunity to study many different thinkers and I would say that this process was a turning point in my life because it made me understand how the complexities and richness of human thinking happen.

While I had been in the course, I developed a translation of a philosophical article from an American Philosopher under the orientation of my mentor (Professor Paulo Jonas de Lima Piva, PhD.). During the development of this activity, I could improve my abilities not only as a philosopher but also as a translator and reviewer, because we studied together some important concepts and philosophies from modernity and specifically those from the eighteenth century. The process of translation and the studies of the relationship between Skepticism and Enlightenment were one of the most interesting studies that I had at the University. When the translation was finished, in 2010, Mr. Piva oriented me to deliver the translation to the Philosophy Department, and then it was accepted as a final term paper.

In the following year, 2011, I was approved in the Mastering Program of the Federal University of Sao Paulo (UNIFESP), in Guarulhos – in Philosophy as well. As a scholarship student, I could devote myself to research. In the same year, the translation that I had developed during graduation under the orientation of Mr. Piva was published in Sképsis, a Philosophy Magazine which provides online readers with some valuable philosophical jobs, articles, and translations. During the Mastering program, I also developed translation and review of philosophical articles. Unfortunately, in 2012, I got sick and I needed to abandon the course.

But my experiences in the academic world had not finished at that moment. After re-establishing my health conditions, I became a Philosophy Professor at the Bureau of Education of the State of Sao Paulo. From 2013 to 2014, I had the opportunity to give back to young students I little bit of what I learned in the academy.

As I have previously said, the pleasure of learning new languages flourished in me while I was studying English. After some years, during the Philosophy course, I was influenced by my mentor in the sense of becoming closer to French culture. Due to these fruitful views, I started studying French at Alliance Française, in Santo Andre. My
pathway started at the A1 level and went through the C1, then, after completing the
course successfully, I followed a non-credit course of 6 months to improve my
French. I have already done the first jobs from French into Brazilian
Portuguese, and I intend to get more and more jobs in this language pair.

Finally, I consider that all the skills that I have been improving may provide you with an accurate and high-quality job. I keep myself motivated and responsive while working on each new project and I maintain a positive attitude toward the challenges that I face in my working routine.

I studied Spanish some years ago, and I restarted my studies recently. Then I will also offer my language services in Spanish>Brazilian Portuguese soon. Also, on my days off, I have been volunteering at Translators without Borders.
