Texto de origem - inglês The three main components of a bone anchored hearing system are the screw shaped implant which is osseointegrated in the temporal bone, the skin penetrating abutment which is fixated to the implant with a connection screw, and the sound processor which can be connected and disconnected to the abutment by the user, see fig 1. The sound processor converts sound into vibrations that are transmitted via the abutment and implant directly to the skull bones and then via direct bone conduction to the cochlea. Except from reaching the ipsi-lateral cochlea, the vibrations are also transmitted to the contra-lateral cochlea, although the signal is somewhat attenuated (around 5-10 dB) when transmitted from one side to the other
Tradução - português Os três principais componentes de um sistema de implante ósseo são: o implante, em formato de parafuso que é osseointegrado ao osso temporal; o suporte de penetração cutânea, que é fixado ao implante com um parafuso conector; e o processador de som, que pode ser conectado ou desconectado do suporte pelo próprio usuário (ver figura 1). O processador converte o som em vibrações que são transmitidas através do suporte e do implante diretamente ao crânio e posteriormente para a cóclea, através de condução óssea direta . Com exceção da cóclea ipsilateral, as vibrações também são transmitidas para a cóclea contra-lateral, apesar de o sinal ser levemente atenuado (5 a 10dB), quando transmitido de um lado para o outro.

I have been living and working in the US since 2004, but I frequently travel back to my home country to visit my family.
My academic background is in Applied Linguistics (PhD, 2002 and MA, 1996) and also Social Sciences (BA, 1982). I worked as a professor at colleges and universities in São Paulo, Brazil, for over 8 years, before I got married and moved to the US.
I love to translate all kinds of texts. Every time I approach a new task, I am amazed by how much I can learn in terms of language use, cultural choices and nuances in both spoken and written languages.
