Authority = A legal power to do an act given by one person to another. A person is said to be authorised, or to have an authority, when he/she is in such a position that he/she can act in a certain manner (defined by the authority): (a) without incurring the liability to which he/she would be exposed in the absence of the authority; and (b) so as to produce the same effect as if the person granting the authority had him/herself done the act.

Authority = The power delegated by a principal to an agent. The lawful delegation of power by one person to another. Power of an agent to effect legal relations of the principal by acts done in accordance with the principal's manifestations of consent to the agent.
