In this webinar we shall explore the art and craft of subtitling with real examples taken from audiovisual programmes. After a brief overview of the main subtitling strategies and the constraints specific to this medium, we will have the opportunity to discuss some of the challenges a subtitler is confronted with, such as: cultural issues; the semiotics of subtitling; the translation of verbal/visual puns, the subtitling of songs and so on.
And in doing so, we shall also take a look at the main functionalities of a state-of-the-art subtitling software, WinCAPS – from importing / exporting files in different formats, an essential feature when working with different clients, to originating subtitles, timing, splitting, merging them and some more.
Please note that although beneficial, participation in the previous webinar is not an essential prerequisite as a refresher of the main issues will be provided. Please also note, however, that this webinar will focus specifically on interlingual (non-SDH*) subtitling.
