This is in an "uniao estável" (Brazil) and here goes the text with context:

""Os presentes reconhecidos como os própios, por meio da verificacao dos documentos apresentados nos originais e acima referidos, de cujas identidades e capacidades jurídicas, dou fé. HISTÓRICO: Entao, por eles contratantes, me foi dito o seguinte: 1. Por esta escriptura pública e na melhor forma de direito, as partes, acima identificadas, maiores e capazes, no intuito de preservar seus interesses pessoais e patrimoniais, expressamente reconhecem e declaram que, iniciarem em [data], relacionamento afetivo com propósito de constitucao de família."

I'm mainly not clear on the use of "intuito de preservar" in this context.
