I am evaluating Transit XV SP 13 Build 499 + Transit Satellite PE Build 267.

I have a strange problem with fuzzy index.

I created a project with 3 files.

I am evaluating Transit XV SP 13 Build 499 + Transit Satellite PE Build 267.

I have a strange problem with fuzzy index.

I created a project with 3 files.

I sent it as a PXF to a member of my team who translated it with Satellite.

Then she returned a TXF file.

I received it back into Transit XV.

After updating the "main" project, I created *another* PXF and sent it to a second member of my team to be proofread.

She received it with Satellite (installed at other machine) and proofread only the first of the 3 files, doing minor changes.

Then, she sent me a TXF I imported back.

Now, I created a PXF once again and sent it to a second proofreader to complete the remaining 2 files.

She received the PXF at a third machine with Satellite PE.

Now, in the second file to be proofread, she finds a segment we know the first proofreader modified in the first file (sorry about all these ordinals We know this because we all work at adjacent desks; in a real world project, this would have gone w/o notice.

I tell this last proofreader to Find Fuzzy Matches to see how the first proofreader edited this segment (in the 1st file).

She does so, and to our surprise, the FI only shows the unedited translation present in the 2nd file. The 1st file does contain the edited segment, but it doesn't show up in the FI. Our Fuzzy threshold is set to 70%, but it shouldn't be of any concern, as both source segments are identical, not even the slightest difference!

The edited suggestion doesn't show up... even when I activate the FI from the edited segment in the 1st file! (PE is not suggesting... what it has in front of its eyes, so to speak.)

In the XV installation, the fuzzy index works properly, showing two suggestions (the one from the 1st, edited file, and the one from the 2nd, unedited file).

I wonder whether Transit+PE wasn't designed to this kind of back-and-forth between translators & proofreaders, but in the other hand, this kind of situations (one person starting a job and another one completing it) is likely to arise in real situations.

What am I doing wrong? Or, may it be a bug or limitation of Satellite PE?

Thxs

Press NumPad + to see more matches Feb 28, 2005

It seems that the only problem is that the fuzzy index window in Satellite PE is not showing the crucial message "Press NumPad + to see more matches"; so the user is misled to thinking there are no more matches. But if you go on and press +, you then will be given the other matches.

It seems that in situations like the one depicted in my post, the best solution is to try and find any segments with differring translations *before* sending a new PXF to the second proofreader.

Now I wonder whether this anomalous behaviour is due to: (a) a bug in Transit Satellite PE; (b) something wrong I did when creating and managing this very project; (c) an intended limitation of Satellite PE.
