Vayamos por partes:

El primer elemento, 2/24, es lo que se llama el título del hilo empleado. En inglés, se llama "count". La primera cifra, 2, corresponde al número de cabos. La segunda, 24, es el grosor. Concretamente, indica cuánto mide (de largo) un peso determinado de este hilo. Hay diversos sistemas, pero 2/24 tiene que ser o "número métrico" (Nm) o "número inglés" (Ne). Si es número métrico, quiere decir que 1 kg de este hilo mide 24.000 metros (24 kilómetros). El número inglés está relacionado con yardas y libras, pero basta con saber que se multiplica el número inglés por 1,7 para pasar al número métrico: Ne 24 = Nm 40.

Yo creo que este número, 2/24, es seguramente Ne. Depende del tipo de prenda. Pero en cualquier caso, creo que debería dejarse tal cual, porque sería arriesgado suponer que es Ne y convertirlo a Nm. Se usa Ne en español también.

Otra cosa es que a menudo las cifras se ponen al revés, es decir, 24/2. De nuevo, yo lo dejaría.

Pues bien, ahora 12gg. Esto es lo que se llama "gauge":

En español, galga. Se trata de galga 12. Es una medida anglosajona, ya que refleja el número de agujas por pulgada, pero se emplea también en español:

Como se decía en el foro citado arriba: "Usarias 3 hilos de Ne 24/1 o 1 hilo de Ne 24/3". Son equivalentes, porque 24/1 tiene un cabo y 24/3 tiene tres. En una tricotosa, se pueden utilizar un hilo o más de uno.
