Law (general)
In order to provide more context, here is some background on this legal case: (1) Banana plantation workers in Nicaragua negatively affected by use of pesticides in the plantations, sue several international companies (2) Attorney for plantation workers states that a U.S. court has ruled in their favor, so that trial can be conducted in the U.S. (3) Attorney for plantation workers further states the following:
I am unsure of 'embargo' as used in the above sentence, since a possible seizure of person, property, etc. has never come into question. Any ideas?

Comment: "Thanks to everyone for their help. As "embargo" was used several times in my document, I used several translations as best they fit. In this instance Edward is awarded the four points since, in the case of the specific text samples that I provided, he confirmed the translation that I had in my head all along. "

embargo
In international commerce and politics, an embargo is the prohibition of commerce and trade with a certain country.
It is usually declared by a group of nations against another one, in order to isolate it and to put its government into a difficult internal situation, given that the effects of the embargo are often able to make its economy suffer from the initiative.
The embargo is usually used as a political punishment for some previous disagreed policies or acts, but its economical nature frequently leaves space enough for doubts about the real interests that the prohibition gives advantage to.

: Agree with attachment and seizure. Not with embargo since it's used in international law.

attachment of assets
It's talking about Nicaraguan Court ruling by which the defendants, Dole, Dow and Shell have benn found liable to pay damages in the amonunt of $490 million.
The ruling is to be enforced by an attachement of assets (embargo).
"On January 17th, 2001, due to these efforts, the Nicaraguan National Assembly passed Law 364, which lays the legal groundwork upon which farmworkers can sue the corporations
Three U.S. corporations have been found liable under Law 364 in a Nicaraguan court; Dole, Dow, and Shell have been ordered to pay US$490 million to Nemagon victims.
Each of these companies has denied the legality of the case on fallacious grounds, calling for a new trial in the U.S."
