: "Açude" is used in European Portuguese, while "Barragem" is more commonly used in Brazilian Portuguese.

Weir is not a meter anyhow, it does not measure anything. It just adjust the outflow of the water. It's a gate.

Obrigado, Marcos. O vertedouro "medidor" tem um nome adicional como "gaging" ou "metering", creio eu.

Sim, aquela empresa usa "soleira vertente". Eu não me lembrei disto. No caso, acho que soa melhor "soleira do vertedouro" então. O que você acha?
O vertedouro seria a estrutura completa em si, incluindo comportas, vigas-munhão, etc. Seria o "spillway". A soleira/weir faz parte do vertedouro/spillway e é a superfície sobre a qual flui a água. E aqui mostra "weir" em inglês: http://daad.wb.tu-harburg.de/?id=843
O que você acha?
A propósito, nice to see you again.
