In this era of societal change there is a tug in many society for keeping the old traditions and customs alive and encouraging people, especially the younger generations, to respect them . There are many customs and cultural practices which are very good, but are fading out and need preservation.

As traditions are gradually eroded, culture appears to be...

or 'gradually dwindle', or 'are gradually worn down'. Just some more suggestions. I'm not sure why I put gradually here - I guess it's just a question of the balance of the sentence. Take it out if you don't fancy it! But 'be eroded' and 'dwindle' look right to me.
