I am preparing for an interpreting exam using, among other things, this article: http://d.repubblica.it/argomenti/2012/11/07/news/economia_mo...
In the second paragraph, it mentions "utile sui ricavi" twice: "al primo posto si assesta a sorpresa il Gruppo Prada, con ricavi nel 2011 pari a 2.556 milioni di euro e un utile sui ricavi del 16,9%...Benetton (al secondo posto con ricavi pari a 2.032 milioni di euro e un utile sui ricavi di +3,6%)".
I don't know how to translate that or even what it means, as opposed to, say, a profit margin.

The only thing that looks clear is that this is a percentage.

Example sentence:
The return on revenue (ROR) is a measure of profitability that compares net income of a company to its revenue. This is a financial tool used to measure the profitability performance of a company. Also called net profit margin.

Note from asker:
Thank you. So, what would be the difference between ROR or net profit margin and profit margin? Does the latter imply "gross"? I found both expressions in the same text and I wonder whether they mean different things or whether the journalist just decided to use equivalent expressions for the sake of variety. |
