Bio

I was born in Istanbul, Turkey, and came to America when I was 10 years old. I quickly picked up the English language (which I love just as much as Turkish) and went on to study English literature at The College of William and Mary, from which I have a BA. I worked as an Editorial Assistant for the Journal of the National Cancer Institute and American Geophysical Union (for the Journal Oceans) for 3 years after college graduation. I then moved to NYC where I went into Logistics and Pharmaceutical Manufacturing for an International vitamin company. I was responsible for almost 90% of the website, Standard Operating Procedures Proofreading, creation of the company HR book, checking all correspondence between the VP and overseas offices, as well as creating, submitting, and proofreading all shipping documents. I never ever made a mistake in over 13 years and I was usually the one catching others' mistakes in lot numbers, shipping quantities, etc. I am well-versed in Excel, Adobe, and Word.  I have worked as a Language Editor for a Geophysical Journal since April of 2022.

I also write poetry in both Turkish and English. I've studied poetry under Sally Dawidoff through her small workshops annually for over 5 years.

My main passion is proofreading, reading classic literature, and poetry. I also have interests in movies, current politics, and food. I consider myself a good cook and know my way around the kitchen as well as I know my way around any document placed in front of me.

I believe that learning is a life-long endeavor and that we are living in a golden age of self-education thanks to the internet. I am here to be productive and learn so I can develop my skills and networks in the field of language/translation.

“The difference between the right word and the almost right word is really a large matter – it is the difference between the lightning and the lightning bug."
