Fugitive Mas Selamat nabbed
KUALA LUMPUR: Fugitive suspected Singaporean terrorist Mas Selamat Kastari has been arrested by Malaysian police.
It is learnt the fugitive, who escaped from a Singapore maximum security detention centre on Feb 27, 2008 was arrested in Johor together with two others by Special Branch officers following intelligence sharing between the police forces of Indonesia and Singapore.

Sources said police here who had been on high alert for the suspected terrorist since his escape had gathered intelligence from their counterparts that Mas Selamat was hiding in Johor and was planning to create unrest in several countries in the region.
A massive operation was launched by the Special Branch with the help of other police departments here.
The month-long operation paid off when Mas Selamat who is said to be the leader for the jemaah Islamiah (JI) in Singapore was arrested.
Police also seized documents and other paraphernalia that allegedly showed of their planned operation.
Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan confirmed the arrest.
"We are in touch with our international counterparts who were informed about the arrest as well as about what we learnt.
"Our officers are still investigating their activities and networking," he added.
Mas Selamat was arrested in February 2006 and was sent to Singapore for investigations before he escaped in February last year.

No wrongdoing in death of boy, says KL Hospital
KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Hospital (KLH) said an internal inquiry had ruled out the allegation made by the family of the late P. Thirishan Raaj that the seven-year-old boy died after being given a prescription overdose by a government doctor.
Its director Datuk Dr Zaininah Mohd Zain, who chaired the inquiry with a panel of senior experts, said in a statement yesterday that based on the symptoms presented, clinical findings and investigation results, the allegation of paracetamol overdose could not be substantiated.
“The laboratory investigations for liver function test showed no evidence of liver injury due to paracetamol overdose,” she said.
The family made the allegation in a newspaper report on April 30, and his grandfather Datuk N. Muneandy claimed that the boy was taken to the government clinic after coming down with fever on April 24 but on taking his medicine three times, he became weak and dizzy.
Muneandy further claimed that his grandson was taken to a private clinic on April 25 but went into a coma the same evening before being pronounced dead at KLH on April 29.
Dr Zaininah said the clinical findings and investigation results revealed that the child’s weight was approximately 20kg and he had ingested 2gm (2,000mg) of paracetamol, and according to the British National Formulary March 2008 Edition, as little as 150mg/kg of paracetamol taken within 24 hours may cause severe hepatocellular necrosis.
“Therefore the ingested dose of 2gm of paracetamol would not cause lethal toxicity,” she said.
Touching on the family’s claim that Thirishan Raaj’s medical report had gone missing, Dr Zaininah said the patient’s medical record was being kept in safe custody by the hospital authority in the event of medico-legal activity.– Bernama

Langkawi gets its sea ambulance
LANGKAWI: The much-awaited sea ambulance has finally arrived in Langkawi.
The sea ambulance is a ferry which has been equipped with the latest medical equipment. It also has a room for patients and a medical team to accompany them during the journey.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the ferry would be used to send patients to the mainland for treatment and for sea rescue.

“The people in Langkawi had been asking for such an ambulance and now the Government has fulfilled its promise to provide one.
“Patients from Langkawi previously were transferred using the normal ferry or a chartered ferry,” he told reporters after jointly launching the sea ambulance with Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat at the Telaga Harbour Park here yesterday.
Liow said the ministry spent about RM500,000 last year to charter ferries to send patients with chronic illnesses to the mainland, adding that with this sea ambulance, the ministry was able to reduce costs and dependency on such ferries.
“In 2007 and 2008, 154 and 142 patients respectively were sent to mainland hospitals using these ferries.”
During the same press conference, Ong said that the sea ambulance in Langkawi was among seven approved under the Eighth and Ninth Malaysia Plan.
“The other six sea ambulances were placed in Port Klang, Mersing, Pulau Tioman, Pulau Pangkor, Kuala Terengganu and Labuan. The ambulances cost RM56mil.”
On another note, Liow said that the Government would beef up its preventive measures to prevent the spread of influenza A (H1N1) to the country.
“I will be attending a conference with my counterparts from Asean to discuss ways that we could work together to prevent the virus from entering our countries. So far, the A (H1N1) has not not hit any South-East Asian countries.”

소식통은 그의 탈옥 이후, 테러범 용의자에게 최고 경계를 늦추지 않던 경찰이 마스 세라맛이 조호에 숨어 있었다는 것과, 그 지역 여러 나라에서 사회적 불안을 조장하려는 계획에 대한 정보를 동료 경찰들로부터 수집해 왔었다고 말했다
대규모의 수배자 추적 작전이 이곳 다른 경찰부서들의 도움과 함께 특별 지부에 의해 착수 되었다.
그 한 달간의 작전은 싱갈폴에 있는 제마 이슬라미야(JI)의 지도자로 불리는 마스 세라맛이 체포됨으로 성공하게 되었다.
경찰은 또한 그들의 계획된 작전으로 보여지는 서류들과 다른 소지품들을 압수 하였다.
경찰 감찰관인 탄 스리 무사 하싼은 그 체포를 확인하면서 이렇게 말했다.

“소년의 죽음에 대해 잘못이 없”다고 말하는 케이엘 병원 (KLH).
쿠알라 룸푸: 쿠알라 룸푸 병원(KLH)은 공립의사에 의해 과용처방전을 받은 후에 죽었다는 7살 소년, 고(故) 피, 티리샨 라지의 가족이 제기한 주장은 내부 조사를 통해 인정할 수 없다고 말하였다.
수석 전문가들과 함께 조사를 주관한, 책임자인 다툭 달 자이니아 모하드 자인 (Datuk Dr Zaininah Mohd Zain) 의사는 제시된 증상들, 임상적 증세들, 그리고 조사결과들을 기초로 한 어제 성명서에서, 해열진통제(파라세타몰)의 과량투여의 주장은 입증시킬 수 없다고 말하였다.
그녀는 “간 기능 테스트를 위한 실험실 조사들을 통해 파라세타몰의 과잉투여로 인한 간 손상의 증거를 볼 수 없다”고 말하였다.
4월 30일 신문 기사에서 주장을 제기한 가족과 그의 할아버진인 다툭 엔, 므네안디(Datuk N. Muneandy)는 소년이 4월 24일 열이 발생한 후에 국립 병원을 찾아 갔지만 그가 약해지고 현기증이 나게 된 것은 3번에 걸친 약을 먹은 때였다고 주장하였다.
므네안디는 더 나아가 그의 손자는 4월 25일에 개인 병원에 찾아 갔었지만 그가 혼수 상태에 빠진 것은 4월 29일 쿠알라룸푸 병원에서 죽었다는 소식을 들은 그날 저녁 밤이었다고 주장하였다.

랑카위가 해양구급선를 얻게 되다
랑카위: 학수고대하던 해양구급선이 마침내 랑카위에 도착하였다.
해양 구급선은 최상의 의약장비를 갖춘 페리(연락선)로서, 환자를 위한 방과 여행 중 그들과 동행할 수 있는 의료진 역시 준비되어 있다.
보건부 장관인 다툭 서리 리오우 티옹은 그 페리가 해상구조활동과 치료를 위해 환자를 본토로 보내는데 유용할 것이라고 말하였다.

리오우는 정부가 만성질환이 있는 환자들을 본토로 보낼 페리들을 전세내기 위해 지난 년도에 약 50만 링깃을 소비하였는데, 이번 해양구조선을 포함시킴으로, 정부는 그러한 페리들에 대한 비용과 의존도를 줄일 수 있었다고 말하였다.
