The protections of workers' rights differ from country to country and from company to company. The level of protection afforded to workers in Europe is unheard of in the United States. The union movement is much weaker than in the 1970s, before Reagan took office and broke the Air-Traffic Controllers Union. Age discrimination is illegal, yet rampant, practiced nowadays in subtle ways, but with the same result: you are gone.

Sorry, I'm not a GP yet.

btw - you were right - it may mean both - 1) changing their work duties (staying in the same position) or 2) changing to a different job/postion

My wife says the employer cannot fire the employee due to newly acquired limitations affecting their performance at work

Amended duties: changing their work duties

Some examples of possible changes are listed below - remember that this list is not exhaustive, and the best changes are ones that are tailored to your organisation and your employee.
• Changing to a different job or location
• Changes to work equipment
• Reduced or flexible hours
• Adjustments to work premises
• A phased return to work
• Giving some of their tasks to somebody else
• Providing training or additional supervision
• Providing a reader or interpreter
• Working from home
• Voice-activated software
• Arranging a mentor or work buddy
• Working in a team instead of by themselves (or vice versa)
• Arranging for an occupational health assessment

If you look at the sample note, you will see that it reads “I advise you that: you are not fit for work or you may be fit for work taking into account of the following advice: If available and with your employers agreement, you may benefit from: a phased return to work; altered hours; amended duties/work place adaptations.” The key words being ‘with your employer’s agreement’. The fit note is advice from the GP not a formal direction.

The changes are:
• The form now has two options. That the patient is “not fit for work” or that the patient “may be fit for work taking account of the following advice.”
• There are four types of alterations listed which the GP can tick. These are:
o A phased return to work
o Altered hours
o Amended duties
o Workplace adaptations

The GP should recommend amended duties where they believe that an employee cannot fully do their former work but may be able to do their job if some duties are avoided or changed. This could include not doing any kind of lifting if recovering from a back injury, or avoiding any work with the public if a person is recovering from workplace stress.

This is not obvious to me from reading the text. A standing job cannot be easily changed to a sitting job and vice versa. I interpret this as placement in a different job, obviously with a different range of duties.

amended duty odnosi się do zmiany zakresu obowiązków w miejscu pracy
ponieważ polskie słownictwo legislacyjne różni się od angielskiego (UK) błędem byłoby tłumaczenie zwrotu dosłownie poprawione zaświadczenie o obowiązkach
angielski używa dużych skrótów myślowych i jest bardziej lakoniczny w określeniach tego typu dokumentów niż j. polski
