Hai, ik ben een vertaling aan het maken voor een mijnheer die vroeger semigeleiders maakte. Hij legt in onderstaande tekst uit hoe zoiets gemaakt wordt, maar ik begrijp het niet goed:
A semiconductor package is produced by firing material in a mixture of nitrogen and hydrogen gas. If the material is contaminated with even a tiny bit of organic material, such as body oils from the fingers, the finished product will have a grayish spot, which is what the contaminant will become after being carbonized in the firing process.
Wat wordt hiermee bedoeld? Een soort verbrandingproces? Ik heb het gevoel dat ik er helemaal naast zit?

I'm afraid I'm native english and doubt the elegance of my target term but you are on the right track when you say it is a verbranding process.
The links (in Dutch or English) state that silicon will be heated up to 1200 degrees centigrade during the manufacture of semiconductors.
When the author says the material is fired, it is meant that the material (silicon) is heated up to a high temperature in a mixture of (the gases)....
I don't think my target term is elegant enough to capture the english terminology used in the source document but as an engineer, I understand immediately what is being described by the author when the word fired is used.
I hope you can find a similarly elegant solution in Dutch.
And I look forward to finding out what you come up with....
