Please help me to fine-tune a sentence

Chinese to English Other Mathematics & Statistics Dissertation/Research/Case Study
The sentence:
是為本研究以單一個案公司為主之缺憾中,透過專家意見所呈現出的效度與信度.
The context:
資料經整理分析過程中,曾二度與受訪人交換意見,以進一步驗證資料之完整性與可靠度,是為本研究以單一個案公司為主之缺憾中,透過專家意見所呈現出的效度與信度.
My translation:
Validity and reliability are achieved through expert opinions to compensate for the use of a single company as the case study for this research.

In the first place, I have problem understanding the sentence. As a result, I find that the translation doesn't make sense. I mean, can validity and reliability be achieved through expert opinions? Can they be manifested in expert opinions? Please help me to fine-tune it.

Discussion

Naikei Wong May 18, 2006:
You're welcome. After having read this n times, I think that's what it's being said. (The case study approach has its intrinsic weakness of being too narrowly focused. So one way out is to bring in authoritative views. It's qualitative study, generally)
anastasia t (X) (asker) May 18, 2006:
Thank you NK! Your explanation improves my understanding of case study by leaps & bounds. Hence, we cannot say that 透過專家意見所呈現出的效度與信度.is a weakness of the research. But rather, the meaning is something close to my original translation, ie, 專家意見所呈現出的效度與信度 compensates (in the author's words) for the weakness.
Naikei Wong May 18, 2006:
corrections: researcher, validity... sorry...:)
Naikei Wong May 18, 2006:
correction: Since a researcher *cannot* generalize...
Naikei Wong May 18, 2006:
(continued) Hence this constitutes the so-called "weakness" mentioned. The research tried to address this weakness by soliciting "expert" opinions to add force to the study's validy. (Reliability cannot be addressed this way really)
Naikei Wong May 18, 2006:
(continued) The same "focusedness" and "specificity" is case' study's very weakness, since a research *cannot* generalize his findings to describe or predict what would happen with other cases. Statistically, case study thus has little or no power...
Naikei Wong May 18, 2006:
The "case study" approach promises to produce evidence / findings that are in-depth and very specific to the case being investigated (e.g. case study on pension practice in Japan; the case, then, is country). The same "focusedness" and "specificity"
anastasia t (X) (asker) May 18, 2006:
Sorry, I know that I have been posting a lot of bad Chinese on the forum lately. Lousy source text i'm translating....
Naikei Wong May 18, 2006:
句子中有一些主语被省略/删除,使翻译更难。e.g. 資料經(sic; should be "在")整理分析過程中, (WHO?)曾二度與受訪人交換意見... (Would you say this is good Chinese, Anastasia? I guess it's from Taiwan?)... the main verb

Also, you should try to answer the question: What is an expert opinion?

1) Experts tend to know more about certain things than others, but their expertise is only valid in their areas of expertise.

2) By seeking more than one expert opinion you increase your chances of being correct, and thus your findings are more reliable.

If you are asking whether I am an expert in case study, the answer is no. if you are asking me whether I am famililar with case studies and how they are used in scientific study, the answer is yes. I have performed many years of graduate study both in the social sciences and statistics. Also, there is probably not a reputable graduate school of business management in the world where you will not encounter the results obtained from several case studies.

Case studies can be used both to confirm existing theories and develop new theories that are later tested through more objective experimentation such as statistical surveys.
Note from asker:
Hamo, thank you very much for your help. Have you had experience with case study as a research methodology? If so, I will take your word for it (that expert opinion can increase validity and reliability) & close the Q. Pardon me, I'm new to case study as a methodology.

'透過專家意見所呈現出的效度與信度', 虽是中文我也不太懂。猜想是表达 the case study 缺乏专家论证和理论上的支持。如果我的理解没错的话,那么以下可供参考:

The only drawback of this study as a single case study of the company was the validity and reliability through the experts opinions.
