português term

Secretaria da Receita Federal da República Federativa de Brasil

português para inglês Direito/Patentes
Hi Prozies:

agree Jane Lamb-Ruiz (X) : I don't think this is wrong at all; just disagree with thinking one has to Britishify...even though I love UK English..it has nothing to do with my nationality...:)

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks everybody! Jane: I was told by the client that the document is to be produced at the British authorities; thus, the reason why I was asking for the "similar" term in British English. Furthermore, the company is chartered here in Uruguay, and the relationship with Brazil is that the attorney in fact appointed, being a Brazilian citizen, is granted to act before this entity. Perhaps I shoud have given more contexts. Thanks. Ralph: It was my idea to mantain the name in Portuguese with the "equivalent" name in English. Nevertheless, thank for your advice. Kind regards from your "old" country, my friend. "

I meant to say sworn public translators that I have and do work with. Sorry.

agree Marian Greenfield : Inland revenue service works only for UK, not U.S., so Federal Revenue Service is the way to go unless specifically for UK market

Fedral Revenue Service of the Federative Republic of Brazil

Yes,I use Federal in this case (even for the U.K.) to distinguish between the 3 levels of government (federal, state and municipal), all of which have their 'secetarias'.

Secretariat of the Internal Revenue Service of the Federative Republic of Brazil

Federative Republic of Brazil= the unfortunate term that is USED by Brazilians and Brazil in official texts

Internal REvenue Service...receita federal

a secretariat is the term in English..

Excuse me but Brazil has more connection to the US than to England. I would NOT translate this as inland revenue..the UK term. That just does not make sense. The British will understand Internal Revenue Service...I believe it\'s best to be culturally correct rather than literally so...this is just my opinion.

For me, Receita Federal is Internal REvenue Service
Secretaria is the HEAD office..but in government, one can say Secretariat...
Peer comment(s):

agree Deborah do Carmo : yes, of course the British would understand both... however just following specific request of our colleague (who already cited "Internal") and who seems to have a particular instruction....but good point.

It may be her idea and not her instructions, right? Sometimes, translators think they "have"' to say this or that....:)
