(10) 38% of translators surveyed report having being scammed at least once

Most business interactions are honest and straightforward, but sometimes just a handful of persons with the wrong intentions can do more damage than expected. Translation-related scams are part of the landscape, and all freelancers should apply appropriate risk management procedures when approached by a stranger with a business offer.
In 2012, just over 38% of translators surveyed stated that they had fallen victim to a scam at least once in their professional career.
The ProZ.com team takes a very active stand against scams. Measures are in place and are constantly being improved in the interest of protecting members, but the best protection is translators helping translators to learn about scam detection and developing better risk management procedures.
Help spread the word: the translation scam center has useful information that can help you or a colleague be better informed and prepared. Instant alerts are sent out when new scams are detected, and digests of alerts are also available. ProZ.com members can subscribe to these alerts, and everyone can review the archive and other resources provided.

(11) Mark your calendar: ProZ.com international conference in Porto, Portugal

In 2013 the ProZ.com international conference will be in beautiful Porto, Portugal.
This event will focus on the new demands and challenges that translators must face to excel at what they do. Many experienced speakers from the translation industry will be in attendance to share their expertise with colleagues from all over the world.
As usual, the conference will be held on a weekend (June 8th and 9th), but there are some exciting plans for those who arrive on the Friday before and leave on the Monday after.
