Explanation:
maybe because there are not many dunes in English speaking countries, they do not have a specific word for "cordão" in this context. If you google dune string you get nothing and dune ridge is just the ridge at the top of a dune. The idea of the cordºão is a series of dunes lying paralel to the shore, See below:

Some coastal areas have one or more sets of dunes running parallel to the shoreline directly inland from the beach.
