neutral  Chema Nieto Castañón: No incluiría "personas" en este caso; diría más bien atender a, prestar atención a o preocuparse por las enfermedades raras

agree  Neil Ashby: Of course we "atender a las personas", no a las enfermedades

  -> Thank you, Neil ;o)

neutral  Derek Voglis: I would not advise adding persons to the text. Simply put it is saying to care about rare diseases. Atender seems as if you were a doctor helping out a patient whereas care about/worry about best lines up with the context of the original text.

neutral  liz askew: thing is it says "caring about" not "caring for"....subtle difference:)

interesarse

Explanation:
En este contexto care es about, y tiene el sentido de "importar(le) algo a alguien". Como viene justo después de importance, hay que encontrar otra solución que podría ser "conocer más", "saber más", "interesarse".

El sentido es ese.

Del Merriam Webster
care verb
cared; caring
Definition of care (Entry 2 of 2)
intransitive verb

1a : to feel trouble or anxiety
cared for his safety
b : to feel interest or concern
care about freedom

neutral  Derek Voglis: Good word but perhaps there are stronger ways to translate what the original text was saying. Yes it is understood but maybe it seems too needy to say to find interest in something. To say to care about doesn't imply any activity rather to be conciente.

-> Interesarse does not necessarily imply action. It means wanting to know more about and caring about what happens.

Explanation:
Even though they are celebrating "Rare Disease Day," the sentence doesn't end with "caring about rare diseases." Notice in the text provided that it also mentions "Rare Facts." It appears that they want people to care about what is rare (the few people who are suffering are important, too), albeit on this particular day the emphasis happens to be rare diseases.
