Paraphrasing George Best Feb 11, 2021

I spent 5 times as much on booze, birds, and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

Yes, be precise, Chris, please, like Don said. Nearly just won't do.

Well, I don’t really like to talk about my charity work...

But the answer is both. Get your mathematical chops around that one ;v)

Hah. Easy. It was clearly a kind of Schrodinger's quantum donation that existed in two superposed states until an observer opened the briefcase (you did use a briefcase full of small, unmarked bills I hope?), thus collapsing said multiple states into a single reality.

Beat that.

Don

He said in his OP: "Got a major in Russian in college, finished 4 years of Russian in only 2 and studied abroad for a year in Russia on a Fulbright grant."

I assume his next thread will be titled: My Trip to the Moon with NASA

Russian is a difficult language, especially for someone coming from a completely different and unrelated language family (Germanic family).

To paraphrase a Greek saying Feb 11, 2021

With colleagues [friends] like this, who needs enemies?

Pretty jaw-dropping stuff. Keep up the good "work", keyboard warriors.

The nerve!

It doesn't surprise me any more. Constructive criticism is one thing, and completely acceptable, but some members of this forum* appear genuinely unable to bear the thought that some people are (more) successful, and want to diminish them or pull them down in some way.

What was it that Henry James said? "Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind."

Dan

*Not talking about Chris and Melvyn, who simply have short attention spans and low boredom thresholds, or vice versa

Low/short Feb 11, 2021

I get the short span and the low threshold, but low span and short threshold? David Crystal would have had something to say about that.

Culinary dilemma Feb 11, 2021

I’m a bit low on groceries and it’s really cold out, so would it be gastronomically acceptable to serve roast halloumi on top of a vegetable stir fry?

That's nothing. You're self-congratulatory and a braggart (never an attractive combination). But since you bring it up, I made twice as much last year.

He left his original post announcing what he achieved and then did not interact one single bit with anyone throughout the thread, considering some people were asking him questions. So, he's not interested in interaction, just announcements?

If you made twice as much last year, you should open two threads/provide two announcements.

An interesting point but, heeding my esteemed colleagues' admonition to take a sunny view of things, I prefer to give the OP the benefit of the doubt and assume that he simply had no time to continue monitoring the thread, what with all the new work pouring in.

Or perhaps, given his evident wizardry in language acquisition, he's decided to have a go at another foreign tongue.

Others can chide and mock all they want. I for one breathlessly await future reports of signs and wonders from this singular force of nature.

Why not fry it until crispy with the veg? Halloumi done that way is hard to beat. Depends how much you have though. Probably 50-100g per person would do it?

As a previous poster said, “What’s wrong with some colleagues?”

Maybe those posts put him off.
