English to Portuguese: O que é o bisfenol A? General field: Science Detailed field: Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng
Source text - English Bisphenol A, also commonly referred to as BPA, is an organic chemical which is the essential basic building block (intermediate) for high performance polymer plastics and coatings, mainly polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resins.
End-user applications of BPA-based polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resins are numerous and diverse, ranging from DVDs, computers and home appliances, to spectacles and optical lenses, reusable water bottles and food storage containers, medical equipment and construction materials, paints, as well as in linings for food and drink cans and many more. Portuguese to English: Igreja do Pátio do Colégio, São Paulo, SP General field: Art/Literary
Translation - English The Church of Pátio do Colégio is São Paulo’s birthplace and was built by José de Anchieta and Manuel da Nóbrega in the sixteenth century. The Church of the Jesuit College, dedicated to Bom Jesus, not only sets the beginning of the Portuguese expansion in the highlands but also the building of the first religious schools in Brazil.
Nonetheless, it is known that the church has undergone innumerable renovations to achieve the appearance with which it was known. In 1554, the School of Piratininga was but a straw-roofed warehouse made of mud and reeds, about thirty by forty meters. The first pictorial record of São Paulo shows an unimpressive School Church in 1628, designed by then Paraguayan governor D. Luis Céspedes Xeria, and on the banks of the Anhembi River. The Church was not completed until 1681, with financial aid from Mrs. Ângela de Siqueira.
After the expulsion of the Jesuits from Brazil in 1759 by decree of the Marquis of Pombal, the church became the Government Palace. Soon the array was spoiled by the demolition of the side wing of the school in order to make new lots available in the surroundings of the church.
