Marcela has formal studies in Philosophy, Translation and Art History and over 20 years of experience in the translation, book publishing and consumer products industries at major multinational groups such as Wal-Mart Stores, Bank of America, Nations Bank, Berthelsman, and Éditions Larousse. She started translating at age 19 and has devoted her life to translation for over 20 years. She attended Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific (Canada) where she obtained her International Baccalaurate with a special mention in Spanish Literature. Marcela recently decided to return to her studies, and started a International Spanish Proofreader and Copy Editor degree at Fundación Litterae-Fundéu. Besides her work as a freelance linguist, Marcela also works as publishing consultant and translation coordinator at a main book publisher in Buenos Aires. She is also an evaluator at the Premio Panhispánico de Traducción Especializada, an international translation contest sponsored by Unión Latina and a jury at several literature contests in Argentina. She belongs to The Institute of Localization Professionals (TILP), Asociación Argentina de Traductores e Interpretes (AATI), The Translation Center at the Frankfurt Book Fair and several book publishing associations. BUENOS AIRES, NOVEMBER 2007 A new book translated by Marcela García Henríquez was launched at the El Ateneo Auditorium, Buenos Aires. The book, "Patagonia", takes an in-depth look at wildlife and human interaction in this spectacular area of the world. The region is unique in its concentration on the long Patagonian shoreline--populated by colorful cormorants, penguins, elephant seals, dolphins, sea lions, and numerous species of whale and an increasing number of human beings. BUENOS AIRES, JANUARY 2008 Editorial El Ateneo published "Are you an ant?" by famous UK writer Judy Allen. A lovely children's book, translated by Marcela García Henríquez. This book will be distributed in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Mexico and Spain as part of the publishing house's 2008 publishing plan. BUENOS AIRES, JUNE 2007 Marcela is working for Kingfisher and Editorial El Ateneo of a co edition of "I wonder why", a children literature collection. The firs titles are: Dinosaurs, Whales and Dolphins, Minibeasts and Baby Animals. These books will be published in Latin America and Europe in early December 2008. BUENOS AIRES, JULY 2007 Marcela is currently translating and adapting for Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay a Gardening Book Collection developed by the Royal Horticultural Society. The first two books will be published in March 2009, followed by two other titles in May 2009. BUENOS AIRES, AUGUST 2008 Marcela won a contract to translate and adapt a series of illustrated books on mythology for an English book publisher. The project includes the translation, adaptation for the Latin American market and DTP of 12 titles.
