I'm not familiar with this term from market research/strategy, but there were several corporate and academic references online. This excerpt was interesting to me:

How do we test?
Testing is fairly straightforward: have participants talk aloud as they perform tasks. Use the think-aloud protocol to test overall product comprehension rather than basic task completion. The key is to watch customers fiddle with a product and silently evaluate its usability. As Sarah Harrison explains, “Observing users is like flossing–people know they’re supposed to do it every day, but they don’t. So just do it. It’s not a big deal.”

Always start with open-ended, non-leading questions like:

-What do you make of this?
-What would you do here?
-How would you do [that]?

By answering these kinds of questions, participants tell a loose story in which they explain how they perceive a product. Along the way, we can generate ideas for how to improve things in the next iteration.

I do, Eileen, unless the context is different from what I understand it to be- not sure if you can provide more context beyond just the sentence? What is the page/section/document about? You can find and read many references to product comprehension online. However, I'm not certain, and I generally give a little less credence to academic references and more to real-world, business ones, hence my low confidence level.

Product comprehension: the process of interpreting product information based on activated knowledge and inferring product-related meanings that go beyond the information given. Furthermore, inferences formed while constructing personal interpretations of product information given in marketing communication are probably very prevalent in consumers’ comprehension processes.

Consumers interpret product information on knowledge that is activated at the time of comprehension. This knowledge is contained in a means-end chain (connection between attributes, consequences and personal goals and values).

H1: Compared to lower-knowledge consumers, higher-knowledge consumers are more likely to comprehend product information by inferring:
a) Personally relevant consequences of attributes
b) Causal attributes of advertised benefits.

agree  JohnMcDove: I just gave another option and my agree to Kathryn, but this option seems that it could work too. I.e., "familiarity" with the product would allow a correct "naming". Also "denominación" could it be "denominación de origen"? http://dle.rae.es/id=CBq4HT3

agree  JohnMcDove: This could work, if it helps to "name" the product, from a Marketing standpoint. :-)

  -> Thanks, John. I can't pretend to be sure about the posible denominación part- maybe denominación de venta, which is a brief description of the product on the packaging. Or just name, as in denominación a secas.

agree  neilmac: I.e. how potential customers understand/see/react to the product. What the name evokes... etc.

Explanation:
I.e., if you understand what the product it, you can "define it" and then you can "name it".

I would think that "naming" is a very important aspect of marketing, like, "McDove-Cola" would not be a very good name for a drink, if you understand and like some other alcoholic beverage, you could have some "Johnny McDoveWalker", and that may work. (Not in my case, as I do not drink any liqueur... ;-)

At any rate, I give this avenue, in case it is helpful.
