A Brazilian company has applied for "recuperação judicial". A general meeting of all the shareholders approves in a resolution "o pedido de concurso da sucursal da Companhia", which is located in Uruguay.

I want to know what a "pedido de concurso" is in this context and how to express it in US English

Thanks in advance!

English translation:a petition for insolvency proceedings by the company's subsidiary
Explanation:
very similar to a request to be placed in receivership (terms that are sometimes used interchangeably)

'petition in bankruptcy' is also sometimes used with the same meaning, but in some cases it is more specific than insolvency (here in the source text the term is not specifically 'bancarrota' or 'falência')

petition for a (AmE > Chapter 11 corporate) bankruptcy of the Company's subsidiary

Explanation:
US English: I didn't spot this the first time round.

In E&W, where bankrupotcy is personal and insolvency is either personal or corporate, it might be a petition for an insolvency order against the Co's subsid. or, likelier, a *petition for a winding-up order on the ground of insolvency* vs. because it is 'just and equitable.

The lingo of insolvency/ bankruptcy/ (Scotland) sequestration varies from Canada via Ireland, North and South, to Oz and New Zealand.

recuperação judicial possibly connotes a reorganizational Chapter 11 in the US and, in E&W: a CVA = company voluntary administration or 'Examinership vs. Receivership' in the Rep. of Eire.

Example sentence(s):
  • A case filed under chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code is frequently referred to as a "reorganization" bankruptcy.

Explanation:
Concurso, in this case, is an arrangement with the creditors, known as "composition with creditors":

Bueno Martin, o prefixo "con" indicaria exatamente isto.

Notes to answerer
