I am having trouble phrasing "di rimanere sotto franchigia" in a legally accurate way. Any help appreciated.

Explanation:
I just spent a week as an interpreter and this was one of the words that popped up. The English speaking senior manager used threshold when talking about a maintance contract and the Italian participants in the meeting used franchigia You might also use something very simple like "limit".

Explanation:
This is the standard term in the insurance industry these days. "Excess" tends only to be used in relation to mass market insurance, such as motor and household insurance, and in correspondence with non-insurance people.

One needs, however, to look at how the "franchigia" is expressed. If is it express as a number of days, then "waiting period is the correct term.

If, however, benefit is not paid under the policy if the "franchigia" is not reached, but once it is reached the claim will be paid without any deduction, then "franchise" is the proper term.
